The icon of the Mother of God, which appeared in Zhirovichi (Slonimsky district, Grodno region, Belarus).

She is revered as a miracle worker in the Orthodox Church and the Catholic Church (including the Belarusian Greek Catholic Church).

One of the most revered shrines in Belarus.

On the site of the appearance of the icon is the Holy Dormition Zhirovichsky Monastery.

 

The icon has a rounded oval shape, similar to a cameo or a chest icon. It is the smallest in size of the revered icons of the Mother of God.

The Mother of God is represented on the icon with the Infant Christ on her right hand, holding her left hand at her chest, Her uncovered head is strongly inclined to the right and touches the head of her Son.

The baby in a short chiton, which leaves the bent knees open, is depicted clinging to the Mother, the right hand is directed to Her, the head is thrown back.

 

The icon belongs to the iconographic type of Eleus (Tenderness), reflecting the idea of the intercession of the Mother of God.
