The Kazan Icon of the Mother of God is a revered miraculous icon of the Mother of God, which appeared in Kazan in 1579.

The Virgin is depicted frontally, shoulder-length, in characteristic clothes, with a slight inclination of the head to the Baby.

On one hand of the Virgin sits the Infant Jesus Christ.

 

The Christ Child is presented strictly full-face, the figure is limited to the waist, only the right hand is visible with a blessing (usually two-fingered) gesture. The second hand of the Bogomladenets is hidden by clothing.

 

In 1579, a terrible fire occurred in Kazan, which destroyed about half of the city. Soon the victims of the fire began to build their own housing. Among them was the Sagittarius Daniel Onuchin and his family. Once his ten-year-old daughter Matrona appeared in a dream of the Mother of God and ordered to dig up Her icon at a certain place of the fire.

 

Matrona told her parents about this, but they did not believe her.

 

When the appearance of the Virgin was repeated three times, the parents and other villagers went to the place indicated in the dream, and really found there an icon of the Kazan Mother of God, and not at all affected by the fire, with such bright colors, as if it had been painted only recently.

 

This is how the icon of the Kazan Mother of God was found in Kazan.
